How to Find an Article Using the ABI/Inform Database

Once you log on to the ProQuest-powered ABI/Inform database, you will see search tabs at the top for conducting different types of searches

To find a specific article using the bibliographic information given in the reading assignment, consider using the search tab. Follow these steps:

  1. Click the tab.

  2. In the Publication Search field, enter the journal title, or select the journal title from among the titles listed.

  3. Click the button.

  4. Find and click the date of the article.

  5. Locate the article title, and click it.

When the article appears, you can read it on screen or print it.

You can also use the search technique, which is useful for looking for articles on a particular topic, or the search tab, which allows you to expand the number of bibliographic search fields.

If you cannot locate an assigned article, check that you clicked or entered the correct publication title, article title, and date. If you still cannot locate the article, notify your mentor by e-mail. Your mentor will check on the availability of the article and give you further help in locating it. It sometimes happens that articles are removed from the database, and your mentor should be informed as quickly as possible.

VALE has other databases that cover different academic areas, all of which use very similar search techniques. These databases are available to you to do research in this or other Thomas Edison State College courses.
