Ground Rules for Group Discussions
- Group assignmentThe mentor assigns each student to a group. Check Groups in the navigation frame on the left to locate the group to which you've been assigned. Group assignments may change over the course of the semester.
- Posting individual solutionsEach member of the group responds to the case study questions individually and posts individual solutions to the group discussion board in Groups. Consult the course Calendar for the due date. Note: In a group activity, being punctual is crucial to the group's success.
- Participating in the group discussionReview and comment on one another's solutions (use the group discussion board in Groups for all group discussions). Feel free to ask questions, to summarize and elaborate on what other group members have said, to ask for help, and to provide assistance as needed. Remember, this is a collaborative activity. Your grade depends on both your interactive participation and your group's success in answering the case study questions correctly.
- Completing the assignmentAs a group, determine the correct answers to the case study questions.
- Electing a group "reporter"Elect a group reporter who is willing to summarize and submit the group's solutions on behalf of the group.
- Submitting solutionsThe group reporter submits the group's solutions to the appropriate forum on the class Discussion Board. These can be submitted as attachments to the discussion thread. Consult the course Calendar for the due date.
- GradingYour group activity grade will be based on both your participation in the group discussion (posting individual solutions, commenting on the work of others, participating as a group member50 percent) and the correctness and thoroughness of the final group report (50 percent). Only active group members will receive points for the work product of their group.
- Reviewing goup reportsRead and comment on the group reports posted to the class Discussion Board. Your mentor will similarly review and comment on the solutions provided. Study the mentor's comments carefully.
